I have generally been holding back my opinion on this blog in an effort to have a discussion forum, however, when I heard this yesterday on NPR I about lost my mind:

Barack Obama, in order to address rising unemployment, is going to hold a "Job Summit" in December to bring in experts and discuss what could be done to create jobs.
So now he is going to do something to address 10.2% unemployment?
Yesterday was too late to do something about the lack of jobs. Last year was too late to be talking with experts about job creation. Taking a clue from Steve Wynn who said it should have been jobs, jobs, jobs since day 1!!
Instead, he has been preoccupied about stimulus, than stimulus, than cap- and- trade, than healthcare. You have to have a job first before you can reform the health insurance that you get from your job.
Also, there is no need for a summit. All Barack Obama has to do is to talk to the average citizen who would tell him that uncertainty is driving unemployment. With all this pending legislation which will possibly increase taxes, health insurance premiums, electricity, etc., nobody knows what they are going to be able to afford next month let alone next year. It doesn't take an expert to realize that the lack of liquidity in credit for small businesses is prohibiting them from growing. People are not spending because they are not sure if they will be able to pay their bills. Nobody knows for sure how things are going to go with the economy. Because of that jobs will not be created until the uncertainty is removed and an environment is created for business to grow through increased liquidity and reduced taxes.
Let me know what you think.

I enjoy reading your blog! My cousin recently introduced me to a web site that you may have already read, but I thought I'd send you the link to check it out. Someone posted on the blog a post like this one...

Jobs. How did we get here? Gen X is about to be renamed the Lost Generation. Like so many problems in life the solution lies in another place. We will not generate jobs until the current system is modified in a significant way. End term limits now! Term limits is like the three strikes law for politicians. Instead of car chases followed by helicopters it is runaway spending because they have to grab their spoils in two terms. Everyone has the internet. Eliminate all political contributions and hold candidate forums on the internet. This would eliminate the rule of special interests because votes in legislatures could no longer be bought and the best ideas would rise to the top through debate. Then, switch from the income tax to the value added tax. The tax would be 200%, or more, and collected at the time of sale and credits would be given for certified pollution controls, labor protection, energy efficiency, and starting with the city, county, state, and finally federal credits against the VAT for being manufactured in those jurisdictions. For the past thirty years we have passed ever more stringent pollution, labor ,and energy efficiency laws while allowing unrestricted imports. No wonder we have lost so many jobs. Pass a pollution law, no problem, the company moves production to China, pollutes like crazy, pays the workers nothing, and imports the product at a price that puts law abiding businesses out of business. What is wrong with this picture? But, as long as the Waltons can sprinkle cash on politicians, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN! Throw the rascals out. End the Politicians incentive to kill this county. Before jobs we need election reform.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Gandruk this time- at least partially. Special interests drive both sides of the isle. I also love the idea of dropping income tax and taxing everyone fairly in some way or another. In the short term this would even hurt me personally because those $6000 tax refunds at the end of the year after paying almost no income tax sure would be missed. In the long run I'd much rather have more opportunities and make a lot more money. With both my Brother and Dad both getting laid off recently, currently I'm grateful to have the low paying enjoyable job I have!
ReplyDeleteRascals is too nice of a term- throw the BUMS out!
